Getting an app

Every app installs from its own page, onto your phone's Home Screen or your computer. Here's how, and answers to a few other questions.

On an iPhone or iPad

Use Safari. Other browsers on iPhone can't add apps to the Home Screen.

  1. Open the apps, tap one and hold the gold button until it says it's yours.
  2. On the app's page, tap Safari's Share button. If you can't see it, tap ··· first.
  3. Choose Add to Home Screen (you might need to scroll down), then tap Add.
  4. Open the app from your Home Screen from now on.

On Android

Use Chrome.

  1. Open the apps, tap one and hold the gold button.
  2. On the app's page, hold the button again and Chrome offers to Install it. If it doesn't, open the ⋮ menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen.
  3. Open the app from your Home Screen or app drawer.

On a computer

Use Chrome or Edge on Windows, Mac or Linux, or Safari on a Mac.

  1. Open the apps, click one and press and hold the gold button with your mouse (or press Enter on it).
  2. In Chrome or Edge, click Install when it asks, or the install button at the right of the address bar.
  3. In Safari on a Mac, choose File, then Add to Dock.
  4. The app opens in its own window. On Windows you'll find it in the Start menu.
Questions

Good to know

I opened the link in another app and can't add it

Links opened inside apps like WhatsApp or Instagram open in their own little browser, which can't add things to your Home Screen. Tap that app's menu and choose Open in Safari (or Chrome on Android), then try again.

Do I need an account?

To get an app, yes: a Corvus account is free, and one sign-in works in every app. Accounts are invite only. Apps you already have keep working without one, and nothing on your device is ever locked away.

Where are my things kept?

On your phone, inside the app. Nothing is sent anywhere to be stored. That also means a new phone starts empty for now, and clearing Safari's or Chrome's website data clears the apps' things too.

Do the apps cost anything?

No. They're all free, with no ads.

Do they work without a signal?

Yes, once they're on your Home Screen. Open them with a connection now and then and they'll pick up anything new.

How do I get the latest version?

There's nothing to do. Apps update themselves the next time you open them with a connection.

I added jScribbles a long time ago. Does my old icon still work?

Yes. jScribbles used to live at the front page of this site. Old Home Screen icons are sent on to its new home, and your things come with it.

Can I use them on a computer?

Yes. Install them in Chrome or Edge (or Safari on a Mac) and they open in their own window, just like on a phone. Or use one in a browser tab: tap an app on the home page, then choose Try it in the browser first.

Each device keeps its own things for now, so what you add on your computer won't show on your phone until Corvus accounts arrive.
